Pink Pooch

Pink Pooch

Kelley and I saw this pink dog, complete with pink toe nails, at Beyond the Compass, Beyond the Square. His name was Chai. Talk about rich kid art.

Mt Vernon installation

I thought this photo might be of interest as most of you probably didn't make it down to see this installation. I thought it was brilliant and well executed. Materials were considered wisely and it ended up being an engaging, thought provoking artistic moment for the neighborhood. I'm talking about the sign not the fence.

Dr. Pepper Democracy

Dr. Pepper has offered a challenge to W Axel Rose…

“Now, Dr Pepper thinks it's up to the challenge. The soft drink company says it will give a free can of Dr Pepper to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" arrives anytime during the calendar year 2008.”

Book Repair PDF

I found a poetry book at Book Thing that is so beautiful that it may actually make me read some poems. Anyway, the hinge is busted, so after a rigorous 20 minutes with Google, I stumbled upon this 200 pg PDF on book repair that seems very informative.

Stencil Artwork

Just a little spray paint building mascots. Robot included, some assembly required.

One legged puppies . . . and John?

I thought we could all use something funny . . . and this is in a dorky way. Plus, it reminds me of John's uncanny ability to make anybody cry.

How much worse can this week get?

Forgive the bad line drawing, I felt bad about posting an image of the actual accident since people got hurt. So I made a super bad line drawing of The Scene.
But, luckily everyone survived, that I know of. I called 911 and am waiting for the detectives to question me further. They said it was cool for me to wait in my apt til they need me. Crazy, I know.

Traditional Chinese Papercutting

My previous creative director told me about him in a recent e-mail. He cuts traditional Chinese paper patterns using logos. He has some other intriguing work too.

Get the Hell out and Vote!

… from Rural Votes (dot) com

Texas Republicans have worked overtime to make it harder for key Democratic voting groups to vote and be represented fairly. The redistricting games they’ve played are infamous. And for the Prairie View A&M University precincts, they put the early-polling place more than seven miles from the school.

So what did the students in this video do? They shut down the highway as they marched seven miles to cast their votes on the first day of early voting.

What kind of stuffed microbe can you get? All the fun Venereals plus others such as E. Coli and Toxic Mold. I have no idea how I found this.

This makes me sad, and mad!

Did you guys see this on Design Observer? That show Quarterlife's site now has a "design channel" and, well, tell me if this line about fonts doesn't disturb you with it's blatant incorrectness:

Hi. My name is Tamar, and I’m a font addict. Seriously, I am. The funny thing, though, is that once upon a time, I thought ALL graphic designers, by definition, were as well . . . I know of numerous graphic designers who’s font arsenal consists mainly of Arial and Helvetica, Times New Roman and Garamond, and maybe a script and display font or two for fun. Anything else tends to be scary.

Um, on what planet is this freak a designer? In fact, is he/she really a designer at all? Forget about the quote—CHALK DUST?! Does that font exist outside of FREE-WARE?! Ugh.

The States

Like Sufjan Stevens, this designer is creating work dedicated to each of the 50 states—only by way of very cool illustrations, rather than songs. I love this one, and can't wait to see what he does with Tennessee.
